Rescue at Our Lady’s House

Notre Dame Catholic Church is an amazingly alive parish in Clarendon Hills, IL in the Diocese of Joliet and has a compelling missionary vision to “offer everyone a life-changing encounter with Jesus so all might be rescued and experience abundant life.” How glorious is that? Their pastor, Fr. Mark Bernhard, believes that one of the best ways to make that happen is to create an opportunity for those in the pews and outside the pews to experience the power of the gospel through The Rescue Project.

With this vision in mind, in January, Janelle Dimitriou, Director of Evangelization and Discipleship, coordinated their inaugural launch in the parish and in homes with their kickoff session drawing a full house where 120 parishioners and their guests gathered weekly to share a meal, an episode, and small group discussion. Not surprisingly, they witnessed God move in power in people’s lives.

To celebrate and wrap up their first season, Fr. John was invited to Notre Dame to speak to those who had just completed The Rescue Project and those who were being invited to experience it in the fall. A couple of neighboring parishes who are also running The Rescue Project came as well (shout out to Fr. Michael Kearney and Zara Tan and the Rescue team from Our Lady of Mercy). From testimonies to an inspiring word preached by Fr. John, to warm and gracious hospitality, the evening was a graced conclusion to an exciting first run of Rescue. Take a look at these smiling faces and what people had to say about their experience and be inspired.

Lenten blessings my friends!
