Master, I Want To See

St. Mark’s gospel today breaks open for us the encounter between Jesus and Bartimaeus. As you may recall, Bartimaeus is a blind man who, in answering Jesus’ question, “What do you want me to do for you?” replies, “Master, I want to see!” (cf. Mk 10:51). Bartimaeus is a beggar, who not only asks something of Jesus, but cries out to Jesus. And Jesus responds to his cry, not only for sight, but to be heard, known and seen as one who has dignity.

Isn’t that all of us, really? Aren’t each and every one of us crying out in some manner or another as Bartimaeus did, wanting someone to hear us, to see us, to know us, and ultimately to love us? This is why we created The Rescue Project. When we offer others an opportunity to encounter Jesus, to come to know who He is and what He has done for us, people come to know who they are and to whom they belong. And when that happens, we begin to see! We begin to see not just some things differently, but everything differently.

Perhaps over the summer, pray about who God may be asking you to invite to The Rescue Project. Ask Him who might be the people in your life who are crying out to be heard, known and loved and to see as Bartimaeus did.

We have a lot to share with you this week! Enjoy the Rundown.

Mary
